A three-year-old girl's left hand was crushed when it was accidentally caught in an escalator at a mall in Howrah on Wednesday evening. The girl lay in trauma for two hours as mall authorities tried to extricate her arm for an hour without success before they approached local police and fire brigade for help. Doctors said the accident had injured tissues, blood vessels, nerves, tendons and muscles. Police have lodged a suo motu case of negligence against the mall authorities.
