A political controversy has arisen in Kerala after JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda claimed that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had approved his party's alliance with the BJP in Karnataka. However, Kerala JD(S) leader K Krishnankutty denied Gowda's statement and reaffirmed the state unit's commitment to the Left Democratic Front (LDF) alliance. The opposition Congress alleged a secret understanding between the ruling CPI(M) and the BJP in Kerala.
