No rights over ‘Shree Ram’ due to trademark, says court

An Ahmedabad civil court ruled that names of deities, like 'Shree Ram,' cannot be exclusively owned merely by trademark registration. The court dismissed a clothing shop owner's suit against his cousin using the 'Shree Ram Vastra Bhandar' name, emphasising that it is a generic term and other individuals have the right to use it.
